Delivering Hand Signals

How hand signals are delivered can be just as important as what signals are given. Point should be expected to originate most hand signals because Point is in the best position to observe terrain and enemy activity to the front of the team. Point should deliver hand signals without taking his eye off the threat. It is the responsibility of Slack to be aware of any hand signals by Point in Slack’s constant situational awareness. In other words, unless Slack is actually engaging a threat, he is responsible for picking up any hand signals originated by Point. Trail, unless actually engaging a threat, is responsible for picking up any hand signals originated by Slack. Hand signals usually progress rearward from Point to Slack to Trail. Point should originate the hand signal in the most discrete motion possible. Trail watchers can see sudden movement from a great distance.
